Throughout the past years, we have been repairing home computers and business computers and realized that 75% of the people really don’t know what a computer is all about – Which is Understandable – because, as a user what we care about is if it is working, if it is slow, is my data secure etc.

On this blog, We want to clarify the components of a computer and what to expect if you are a calling a technician. As a technician, we care about providing our clients with a complete optimized and error free computer – At PC and Web Pros that is our Goal - to always deliver a computer that will work - explaining the reason(s) of the problem(s), optimizing and letting you know how to prevent getting into future issues.

Some items we look for:

  • Is your computer secure? Is it running with the right protection software? Are they configured correctly?
  • Is your computer up to date? Does it have the right drivers?  Are the drivers the latest ones? Is the Bios the latest one?
  • Is your Computer Clean Internally and Externally? Has your computer been compressed, defragged, Optimized or properly maintained?
  • Does your software install or uninstall the right way? Are there copies of uninstalled software still on your computer?
  • Is your hardware running ok? Is it overheating or making a strange noise.
  • Cleared Cache errors, registry errors, unneeded software, etc.

When you need a repair, it means a repair. A lot of technicians do a mockup or a bandage fix knowing you will continue calling them or somebody else.

At PC and Web Pros, we will listen to your concerns, analyze, consult, price it, fix it, optimize it, teach you some new things and give you back a computer that will work … That is how we do business. Thanks to our Customers referrals – we continue!

Ok, now let me explain to you how a computer is divided up.

When we buy a computer, we see a metal box or a beautiful laptop but there is more than that… A computer starts of course with the case, followed by the monitor, keyboard, mouse and extra peripherals as a printer etc.

Let’s get a little technical -

Inside a computer, is where all the components start with a motherboard - which a lot of people do not know needs a software so it can run - this software is called BIOS - a very important part of a computer. The motherboard is the holder of the most important piece - the CPU - a small chip which is the BRAIN of the computer!

On the motherboard, there are several modules - for example - integrated video card, audio card, integrated network card, etc. In some cases, these modules can be upgraded, changed or replaced by adding a new card to the motherboard - in a small slot that is on the mother board - for example - we want to add a better video card with better resolution or HDMI Features etc., or we want to add a better Audio Card, or more USB’s or a better network card etc., - there are a lot of options and things you can do.

Besides that, we have these chips we call RAM –Memory RAM – these chips come in different capacities - this is the Memory of the Computer – a chip that helps the CPU to act, react and execute orders like turning on your computer or opening a software.

Now, all these components need software - so they can implement what to do. Drivers - this small software is very important and can be updated 1, 3 or more times a year – Drivers help the computer not to overheat, make strange noises and help prevent failure of the hardrive, etc.

So, when we ask why did my hardrive stop working, why is my computer overheating, why those noises, or why a component from the computer may not be working – this sometimes is caused by a driver being misconfigured or because it was never updated!
All these drivers are installed by the Operating System which is a software with a compilation of millions of orders and executions - these Operating Systems - for example - the ones from Microsoft, called Windows - are Updated too. These updates are important for the performance and security of the computer –  how can we expect to have a computer running in perfect state if is not up to-date?

Yes, there are many reasons your computer may be acting funny and having problems – Another one is – getting Hacked. So, it is important that your computer is up to date and you do have protection. By prevention and maintenance, we can avoid many common side effects.

Hard drives - your hardware has a life period - some hard drives 3 years other ones 5 years but some only have 1 year and of course these time periods can be shortened by how we use it - and that is where maintenance comes into be the most important part.

Maintenance is not just about getting in by remote control and cleaning your system - which they will delete temporary files and cache - no there is more than that a lot more than that… And, it is about hardware maintenance too – cleaning it – checking life span, replacing bad pieces and making sure your pc, laptop or ... is not overheating.

At PC AND WEB PROS WE STAND FOR QUALITY SERVICE - MAKING SURE YOUR SYSTEM WILL RUN, RUN AND RUN LIKE IT IS SUPPOSE TOO - AND REMENBER, WE ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO LET YOU KNOW HOW TO PREVENT IT.
